Sunscreen

Why Sunscreen is Your Skin’s Best Friend

The truth about sun damage is that it’s cumulative. Repeated exposure to the sun’s UVA and UVB rays is what leads to premature aging, skin discolorations, and skin cancer. Once skin cells are damaged, there is no going back. You cannot turn back the clock for damaged skin cells. Preventing this from happening is rather simple. Wear sunscreen daily!

Need more convincing, keep reading!

IT REDUCES THE DEVELOPMENT OF WRINKLES AND PREMATURE AGIN

It has been proven time and time again that people who wear sunscreen on a daily basis show less signs of aging than people of the same age who don’t wear sunscreen on a daily basis. In fact, wearing SPF every day is the only actual anti-ager when it comes to preventing premature wrinkles on the skin’s surface! When the sun’s UV rays beat down on your skin, the elastin in your skin begins to break down. Thus making your skin more susceptible to fine lines and wrinkles.

IT PREVENTS SKIN DISCOLORATIONS SUCH AS BROWN SPOTS

You may think that your skin has only reached the point where it has been damaged when it’s burnt, but that’s where you’re wrong. Yes sunburns cause significant damage to your skin and often have permanent effects, however prolonged exposure to the sun’s UV rays over time is what causes discoloration and pigmentation. Skin cells are constantly reproducing and mutating! That’s good for people who take care of their skin and have healthy skin cells. But for people who have damaged skin cells from the sun, your skin cells are duplicating the damaged skin cells rather than producing new ones. Which in term, leads to a large quantity of unwanted freckles and dark spots.

IT DECREASES THE LIKELIHOOD OF GETTING SKIN CANCER

The sun’s UVB rays contribute to the development of all three types of skin cancers (Basal Cell Carcinoma, Melanoma, and Squamous Cell Carcinoma). We won’t get into the nitty-gritty of skin cancer and how detrimental they are to the human body in this blog, however if you would like to learn more about the three different skin cancers, you can refer to our blog, Skin Cancer and Sun Exposure. The Skin Cancer Foundation strongly recommends that people of all skin types wear sunscreen on a daily basis. Now that’s a recommendation that cannot be argued with!

IT SHIELDS YOU FROM THE SUNS HARMFUL RAYS

We hate to tell you this but there is no day where the sun isn’t dispersing UV rays. Yes that means that even on 100% cloudy days, the sun’s UVA rays are strong enough to penetrate through. These are the rays that cause premature aging and skin discolorations.

IT PROTECTS EVERY SKIN TYPE

Whether you have a dark or light complexion, your skin still needs protection from the sun! Although people with a lighter skin tone are more susceptible to burning, people with a darker skin tone are more susceptible to developing skin cancer once burnt. Who knew?

IT COMES IN DIFFERENT FORMS

Sunscreen is amazing in that it comes in several different forms depending on user preference. People who are outside for most of the day and are in need of re-applying often prefer spray-on sunscreens. People who spend limited amounts of time outside during the day, simply use cream based sunscreen products. People who don’t like going through the hassle of applying sunscreen daily, opt for makeup products that have SPF right in the ingredients. What ever your preference, there is a sunscreen for you!
